Sunrooms 4 Season Factory in China – Aluminum Sunroom and Conservatory Specs, Pricing

Four season aluminum sunroom with double glazed glass panels attached to a house in China - thermally broken frames and insulated glass roof
Four-season aluminum sunroom built on 6063-T5 thermally broken frames with 5+12A+5 low-E double glazing – typical configuration for a sunroom attached to house in a heating climate.
A four-season sunroom is a conditioned space, not a screened porch. That single distinction changes every number in the specification: frame U-value, glazing SHGC, roof snow load, condensation control and the HVAC allowance. This page lists the actual profile, glazing and load data a sunrooms 4 season factory in China works to, with FOB price bands by configuration, test standards and container loading math for project buyers.

Sunrooms 4 Season: Structural Envelope Requirements

The difference between a three-season room and a sunrooms 4 season build is that the envelope must carry a heating and cooling load all year. That pushes four parameters above the values used for a seasonal enclosure: frame U-value, glazing U-value, air tightness and roof snow/wind load. If any one of the four is left at seasonal-room level, the result is condensation on the frame in January and an oversized cooling bill in July.

Design loads used for a year-round conditioned sunroom

Load case Seasonal room Four-season room Standard reference
Wind pressure 1.0 – 1.5 kPa 1.5 – 3.0 kPa EN 12210 / ASCE 7-16
Snow load (roof) 0.75 – 1.0 kPa 1.0 – 2.0 kPa EN 1991-1-3 / ASCE 7-16
Dead load (roof glazing) 25 – 30 kg/m2 30 – 45 kg/m2 measured, laminated make-up
Air permeability Class 3 (600 Pa) Class 4 (600 Pa) EN 12207
Water tightness 4A (150 Pa) 7A (300 Pa) or E900 EN 12208 / AAMA 501
Thermal transmittance Uw 2.6 – 3.4 W/m2K 1.6 – 2.2 W/m2K EN ISO 10077-2

Why air tightness class 4 matters more than U-value alone

At Uw 1.8 W/m2K with class 3 air permeability, infiltration adds roughly 0.4 – 0.6 W/m2K of effective heat loss in a 25 km/h wind. Moving to class 4 with a continuous EPDM gasket line and a compression-sealed corner joint recovers that margin without changing the glazing specification. It is the lowest-cost U-value improvement available in a four-season sunroom and it is frequently skipped.

Structure check before quoting: a roof span above 3.6 m on a 45 kg/m2 glazing make-up needs an internal ridge beam or a raised tie. Confirm the beam depth allowance with your engineer before the profile order is locked, because the extrusion die and the beam pocket are made in the same production window.

Aluminum Sunroom Frame Systems: 6063-T5 Profiles and Thermal Breaks

An aluminum sunroom is built from the same extrusion platform as a thermally broken window system, with deeper profiles to carry the roof load. The alloy is 6063 in T5 temper for the frame and T6 for load-bearing mullions and ridge beams. Wall thickness moves from 1.4 mm on a seasonal room to 1.8 – 2.2 mm on a four-season build.

Profile series and measured thermal performance

Series Depth Wall Thermal break Uf (W/m2K) Max span
SR-60 60 mm 1.4 mm PA66GF25 18 mm 3.0 2.4 m
SR-75 75 mm 1.8 mm PA66GF25 24 mm 2.4 3.0 m
SR-90 90 mm 2.0 mm PA66GF25 30 mm 2.0 3.6 m
SR-110 (roof) 110 mm 2.2 mm PA66GF25 34 mm 1.8 4.5 m

Uf is the frame-only value measured by hot-box method to EN ISO 10077-2. The whole-window Uw depends on the glazing unit and the spacer; the figures in the glazing section below use the SR-90 frame as the reference.

Thermal break material: why PA66GF25 and not PVC

Surface finish specification

Finish Film thickness Salt spray Colour fastness Cost adder
Powder coat (polyester) 60 – 80 um 1000 h Qualicoat Class 1 included
Powder coat (super-durable) 60 – 80 um 1500 h Qualicoat Class 2 +$4 – 6/m2
PVDF (70% resin) 30 – 40 um 3000 h AAMA 2605 +$9 – 13/m2

Wood-grain sublimation 60 um base 1000 h Qualicoat Class 1 +$12 – 18/m2

Coastal projects within 500 m of the shoreline should be specified at super-durable polyester or PVDF. Standard polyester chalk starts at roughly 18 – 24 months in that exposure band. For related outdoor structures on the same extrusion platform see conservatory and glass house garden buildings.

4 Season Sunroom Glazing: Double vs Triple Low-E, SHGC and Condensation

A 4 season sunroom spends most of its glazing budget on the unit, not the frame. The two numbers that decide whether the room is usable are Ug and SHGC, and they pull in opposite directions depending on whether the site is heating-dominated or cooling-dominated.

Glazing make-up and measured data

Make-up Ug (W/m2K) SHGC LT (%) Weight (kg/m2) Adder vs base
5 + 12A + 5 float 2.7 0.72 81 25 base
5 + 12A + 5 low-E 1.4 0.61 78 25 +$8/m2
5 + 16Ar + 5 low-E (warm edge) 1.1 0.58 76 25 +$14/m2
5 + 12Ar + 5 + 12Ar + 5 low-E x2 0.7 0.47 69 37.5 +$38/m2
6 + 1.14 PVB + 6 laminated low-E 1.5 0.52 74 30 +$22/m2

Selecting SHGC by climate

Condensation control: the temperature factor route

Condensation on the frame edge is the most common complaint on a four-season sunroom. The check is the temperature factor fRsi = (Tsi – Te) / (Ti – Te). At an interior design of 21 C and 55% RH the dew point is 11.6 C, so fRsi must stay above roughly 0.62 to avoid visible condensation. A 24 mm PA66GF25 break with a warm-edge spacer returns fRsi 0.68 – 0.72 at the glazing bead; an aluminium spacer without a break returns 0.42 – 0.50 and will run water down the frame in a cold snap.

Roof glazing must be laminated to EN 12600 class 1B1 or ANSI Z97.1 for overhead glazing in most jurisdictions. Annealed monolithic glass overhead is not accepted by inspectors in North America, Australia or the EU, regardless of thickness.

Sunrooms and Glass Houses: Roof Configurations and Load Data

Search behaviour around sunrooms and glass houses usually splits into two intents: a year-round living space attached to a house, and a freestanding glazed garden building. Both use the same extrusion family but the roof engineering differs.

Four roof geometries and what they cost

Roof type Pitch Span limit Load Cost adder / m2
Flat (structural panel) 2 – 5 deg 3.0 m 1.0 – 1.5 kPa snow +$28 – 40
Lean-to / shed 5 – 20 deg 4.0 m 1.5 – 2.0 kPa snow +$20 – 30
Gable (glazed both faces) 25 – 40 deg 5.0 m 1.5 – 2.0 kPa snow +$45 – 70
Hipped / orangery lantern 25 – 35 deg 6.0 m 1.5 – 2.0 kPa snow +$85 – 130

Insulated roof panel vs glazed roof

Drainage and gutter sizing

A glazed roof sheds to a perimeter gutter. Size the gutter for the local 1-in-100-year rainfall intensity, not the annual average. Rule of thumb used in the shop: 1 cm2 of gutter cross-section per 1 m2 of roof plan area in a 50 mm/h design storm, with an overflow slot above the gutter line so a blocked outlet does not back water into the frame head. For a retractable-roof alternative on the same structure see skylight and retractable roof systems.

Conservatory Insulation: U-Value Targets by Climate Zone

The term conservatory is used across the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand for what North America calls a sunroom. The compliance target is set by the local energy code, and the U-value that passes in one zone will fail in another.

U-value targets and the governing document

Market / zone Roof U (W/m2K) Wall/window Uw Governing document Typical make-up
UK (England) 0.15 – 0.18 1.4 – 1.6 Approved Document L1B 28 mm triple or panel roof
Ireland 0.16 – 0.20 1.4 – 1.6 TGD L (2021) 28 mm triple or panel roof
France 0.20 – 0.28 1.3 – 1.5 RE2020 (Bbio cap) 24 – 28 mm triple
Germany 0.20 – 0.24 1.1 – 1.3 GEG 2023 / EnEV 28 – 32 mm triple
USA zone 5-6 0.15 – 0.20 (R-30+) 1.7 – 2.0 (U-0.30) IECC 2021 panel roof + double low-E
Australia zone 6-7 0.30 – 0.40 2.0 – 2.6 NCC 2022 Section J double low-E, SHGC 0.35

Three ways to hit a 0.18 W/m2K roof

A conservatory that is classed as a habitable room under building regulations must also meet the glazing safety, ventilation and means-of-escape provisions of the same code, not only the thermal target. Confirm the exemption status with the local authority before the order is placed – in England a conservatory under 30 m2 with a separate external door and independent heating control can remain exempt, but the exemption is lost once the dividing wall is removed. More on the European wintergarten variants is covered in aluminium conservatory specifications.

Sunrooms 4 Season Pricing: FOB China Price Bands

FOB pricing from a sunrooms 4 season factory in China is quoted per square metre of glazed envelope, roof included. The bands below are FOB Shenzhen or Foshan, in USD, at a 2026 Q3 aluminium ingot reference of 2,150 – 2,350 USD/t, and exclude freight, duty and installation.

Configuration Frame Glazing Roof FOB / m2
Seasonal room, 3-season SR-60, 1.4 mm 5+12A+5 float 8 mm polycarbonate $88 – 125
4 season, standard SR-75, 1.8 mm 5+16Ar+5 low-E glazed 5+12A+5 lam $145 – 195
4 season, high-insul SR-90, 2.0 mm triple low-E x2 glazed 6+12Ar+6 lam $210 – 268
Conservatory, hybrid roof SR-90, 2.0 mm triple low-E 100 mm panel + ridge band $232 – 310
Orangery / lantern SR-110, 2.2 mm triple low-E structural lantern $295 – 385

Cost drivers that move the quote

Landed cost example: 20 m2 four-season unit, standard specification

Cost line Basis Amount (USD)
FOB value 20 m2 x $170 $3,400
Ocean freight + THC 6.5 m3 LCL, Shenzhen – Hamburg $780 – 1,050
Insurance 0.35% of CIF $15 – 20
Import duty (EU aluminium) 6.0% of CIF $250 – 270
Inland delivery port – site, 320 km $240 – 330
Installation labour 2 fitters x 3 days $1,500 – 2,400
Landed total $6,185 – 7,470
Landed per m2 $309 – 374 / m2
Above roughly 35 – 40 m2 of envelope a 20GP container becomes cheaper than LCL on a per-m2 basis, and the glass breakage rate drops because the crates are not transhipped. A 20GP takes about 55 – 65 m2 of four-season envelope in knockdown crates; a 40HQ takes 125 – 145 m2.

Installation Sequence for a Sunroom Attached to House

Most four-season sunroom defects are installation defects, not manufacturing defects. The sequence below is the one used on a slab-on-grade attachment and assumes the foundation and any required permit are already in place.

Nine-step sequence

Three failure points to inspect

Where the sunroom replaces an existing glazed wall, the interface is usually handled with a sliding or folding door system rather than a fixed screen; see aluminum sliding patio door specifications for the track and threshold details that pair with a sunroom opening.

Project Data: 22 Four-Season Sunrooms, Ontario, Canada

A developer in southern Ontario ordered 22 identical four-season units across a 22-house subdivision in 2025. Design condition was -21 C winter, 31 C summer, ground snow load 1.9 kPa, wind 1.4 kPa at 10 m.

Installation ran 6.2% higher because the crates were unloaded and staged per house rather than delivered as one drop, which added 0.7 days per unit. Net saving per house was about CAD 12,000. Condensation inspection at the first winter cycle recorded no frame-edge condensation at -18 C interior 21 C / 40% RH, which was the acceptance criterion written into the contract.

Snow load is the parameter that most often breaks a sunroom order imported from a low-snow region. Declare the ground snow load, the importance factor and the exposure category at enquiry stage so the ridge beam and rafter spacing are sized once, not twice.

Where each material wins

For buyers weighing a glazed garden building instead of an attached room, the garden room and glass room comparison and the glasshouse and greenhouse supplier data pages cover the lighter seasonal specifications.

To price a four-season sunroom, send the plan dimensions, roof type, ground snow load, wind pressure, U-value target and the destination port. A shop drawing set including the ridge beam sizing and the glazing schedule is returned with the quotation, normally within three working days.
